It’s been a long and busy week for me, a week that I’ve spent so much time just in awe of people who work full time, blog, stay in touch on social media and have time to still brush their teeth.
I’ve been doing some extra work for Kidspot this week and it’s been bloody fantastic. Possibly one of the highlights was going into the office and meeting some of the team face-to-face. As much as I’ve loved working on my own this past year, I’m prepared and thrilled to say that it’s really uplifting to be part of such a cohesive, committed and generally awesome bunch of women.
I managed to write about breastfeeding, Paid Parental Leave and smacking this week (amongst other things) and the fact that I haven’t been lynched yet also feels very good.
I had a long awaited appointment with a specialist this week (because I’m special) and it was confronting again to see such an educated and accomplished doctor who was almost young enough to be my child. That hurt more than the bazillion tests he ordered.
On top of the extra work and the seemingly endless hours spent at pathology my house was open for inspection yesterday and is open again tomorrow. There’s been quite a bit of cleaning happening which has been very excellent because I have convinced the family that in order to maintain the brilliant shine of the kitchen surfaces we must eat out as much as possible.
Luckily this coincided with the opening of my beautiful friends restaurant last night. These gorgeous people own the best Thai restaurant I’ve eaten it in Sydney, it’s called Eat Thai and it’s in Five Ways in Paddington and you should go there. Last night, just a few doors up, in a restaurant that used to belong to the now famous Manu, they opened a renovated and magnificent italian restaurant and wine bar called Vino e Cucina and we could think of nothing better and more appropriate than eating there in opening night.
It’s always nerve wracking to go to the restaurant where you are really friendly with the chef. I was quietly confident because I love their Thai restaurant but this was Italian and my friend was the chef.
The restaurant was packed and the vibe was brilliant (you know when you go to a restaurant and the patrons are all happy and smiling while scoffing down their food it’s a good sign)
The food was heavenly. Seriously my husband had a chicken dish that he said was the best chicken he’s ever eaten. While I tried not to be offended that he didn’t love my cooking most I could see it in his eyes, he was in love with another man’s cooking.
My boys (Mr and Little Pencil) started off with a beef carpaccio which is the point at which they started drooling.

It is tricky visiting restaurants where you’re not a disinterested party…when my cousin opened a cafe in Potts Point I was SO relieved that it was nice and I didn’t have to do the euphemistic compliment!

My week was meh… Swollen glands which no doctor can tell me the cause of, little to no voice (which the new hubby loved), and a feeling I’m not where I’m meant to be professionally.
On the upside, with the cold front about to hit the Hunter, I’m looking forward to digging out the gorgeous scarves and slouch beanie I bought at the end of last winter ๐
