1 000 022 things I just don’t get

I will be the first to admit that I have been a little grumpy of late, I will also be the last to talk about it because I am awful at sharing all that personal stuff (which could explain why I am such a shit blogger).

Anyway the grumpy and slightly anxious (where slightly means over-the-top) mood means I’ve been pondering over a lot of things I don’t understand (probably because I don’t want to deal with my own grump).

So here, in no specific order, is a list of things I just don’t get right now

  • People who phone into the radio just for the sake if it. No competition, no talkback conversation just a call to say hi. A call like you would make to a friend
  • People who don’t like sushi. What’s not to like? (I say this as a person who lists rice in her top five foods).
  • Sushi makers who believe that bigger is better. It’s not.
  • People who support the Abbott government. In view of recent events I’m sure there are not as many of these people as there used to be. At least I hope not.
  • People who abuse or neglect children or animals.
  • People who choose brown rice over white. I’m noticing a rice trend in this list. (Deal with it because rice is delicious, especially when it is white).
  • People who love the heat.
  • People who condone racism or xenophobia. Obviously.
  • People who cover their bodies in tattoos. This is not a judgement on people who are covered in tattoos. I just don’t understand it , I think this is mainly because I get bored very quickly and I can’t imagine wearing the same clothes every day let alone looking at the same images on my skin every day
  • Restaurants that serve water in hot glasses. I appreciate the fact that they are just freshly plucked from the dishwasher and are shiny clean but you need to have enough glasses so that you can wait till they cooled down. Hot glasses and cold water makes warm water. Warm water is not thirst quenching or tasty.
  • People who listen to the radio just slightly out of tune. This seems to be a common practice in taxis and doctors rooms. (coincidentally both places which are hard to get out of before you really have to).
  • People who wear clothes with slogans that insult themselves.
  • People who watch YouTube clips on their phones in public without earphones
  • Dermatologists that run late due to an emergency. What kind of emergency does a skin doctor have on a regular basis. Brides with acne?
  • Bullies, mean girls and cliques.
  • Restaurants that run out of Equal.
  • Renee Zellwegger’s response to the interest in her changed face. Happiness does not change the shape of your eyes. If you’ve had surgery (and there’s nothing wrong with that – you should have seen my nose prior to rhinoplasty) then own it. Actually, my husband told me my face has changed recently because I look “stressed and anxious” but my eyes are still the same shape.
  • People who use brackets all the time (you may be beginning to notice why I am grumpy with myself).
  • Blake from The Bachelor
  • People who are nasty to other people online or in real life
  • Why rug shops are always closing down
  • Spam (the email type not the fake meat type)
  • And about a million other things

  1. Like I posted on Social Media this week… I still don’t get why a murder that happened in South Africa has been front page news in Australia for so long…

  2. I think we could reasonably leave spam the fake meat on your list, Lana. I don’t get that at all.

The only item I disagree with you on, is people who love the heat. I HATE winter with a passion because I can’t leave the house without 27 layers on. I just want to wear a dress and some shoes.

Other things to add to the list: hipsters. They’re trying to be different, just like everyone else. And people who don’t know how to stack a dishwasher.

  3. Totally with you on all things Sushi, especially bigger is not better.

Me personally, my favourite rice for Sushi is the red, nearly purple, rice, which they make with beans. 🙂

  4. I relate to every single one of these Lana (except the brackets one). What else do I not understand? Parents who think their child can do no wrong. When a teacher told me my kids had been doing the wrong thing, they were in trouble with me… I didn’t blame the teacher.

  5. I know you are cranky and that this is a very serious list and I relate to all of them, absolutely all, which is quite freaky because you are I rarely agree on anything, but the dermatologist emergency made me laugh so hard, which is mean, because technically I am laughing at you, even though in spirit I am laughing WITH you, and either way I hope I haven’t made you more cranky.

In other news, I hate really long sentences. Sorry.

  6. I’m with you on all of these. Also, why do people ignore the fact that live export results in torture? There is more than ample evidence that out animals are being killed in the worst imaginable way. At least Julia Gillard tried.

  7. Well going by this list, you won’t understand me…I hate sushi and love the heat! Haha!

  8. As you are a committed vegetarian I would have thought that SPAM (the one in the tin) would have upset you.
